If you are submitting your web site to search engines, also submit it to the ODP web site as well.

A lot of popular web sites, including the most popular web sites, use the directory from the ODP.
If you're on the ODP, you may also be on the other web sites as well.

Check out the ODP at www.dmoz.org, find the appropriate category your site belongs in, then submit your site.

Of course still go ahead and submit your web site to the search engines as well. Most of the popular search engines still have a free web site submission page - you just need to look for it in the information about the web sites.
